Description
The Xiegu VG4 is a 4 band ground plane antenna covering 40/20/15 and 10 metre amateur bands. This antenna is typical of HF verticals that have a low take off angle and an omndirectional radiation pattern. Parallel resonators are used to give the best vertical element efficiency. End loading of the low bands is achieved through the use of capacitive hats which allow efficient operation with a reduced total antenna length of less than 8 metres. Antenna bandwidth is typically 150 Khz on 40 metres, 450 Khz on 20 metres, 800 Khz on 15 metres and 1000 Khz on 10 metres. Typical SWR readings across all bands is typically 1.6:1. This antenna is rated at 1000 watts PEP (400w CW), and is mechanically rated to survive winds of 35 metres/second without guying. Construction of the antenna is through the use of aluminium tubing, each concentric section is secured with 304 grade stainless steel clamps, each aluminium section has a clear anti-oxidation coating. The band traps have a rubber seal at the top and weep holes at the bottom, to eliminate moisture retention.
Total weight is less than 8Kg. The antenna is supplied with simple hand tools to facilitate assembly. We have written a comprehensive Assembly and Instruction Manual for this antenna, which details the step by step assembly procedure, and measurements based on our assembly of the test antenna. Much of the information does not appear anywhere else and is the result of our experience with this antenna.
